Individually tailored hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is now popularly called "bio-identical." This means that the hormones are not synthetic, they are extracted from Chinese yam, and are given in dosages that mirror the body's own hormones.
They are also given in skin creams (transdermal) or lozenges (sublingual) that take them directly into the bloodstream, rather than taken into the digestive system as pills.
